I am an Agronomist by training, and have attained my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. Prior to that I obtained a Master’s Degree in Agronomy at the Kharkov Agricultural Institute, in the Ukraine, then a member of the former Union of Soviet Socialists Republic (USSR).
Since completion of my Master Degree Programme in 1991, I have been employed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) to date as a Research Scientist. I have by dint of research output risen to the position of a Principal Research Scientist. Since my employment I have been working as a Systems Agronomist with the Upper East Region Farming Systems Research Group (UER-FSRG) with its Headquarter at the Manga Agricultural Research Station, where I am also the Officer-in-Charge of the Station and Team Leader of the UER-FSRG to present. Over the years I have been working in such research and development areas such as cropping systems improvement; soil fertility improvement; soil and water conservation techniques; adaptation of improved crop varieties to the northern Ghana diverse agro-ecological zones; dry season onion agronomic improvement research; conduct on-farm demonstrations in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the Upper East Region and Non-governmental Organisations in the Upper East Region. I am also the Research Extension and Farmer Linkage Committee Co-ordinator for the Upper East Region of Ghana. By this designation I am responsible for the co-ordination of all research; extension and other food related activities in the Region. I co-ordinate the organization Annual Review and Planning Sessions from Operational Zonal through District to Regional Levels every year and identify resource persons to train Regional and District Development Officers in key subject matter areas that they need training, so that they in turn will train the Agricultural Extension Agents who in turn will train farmers. I also organize monitoring visits to all the administrative of the Region to monitor the progress of research and extension activities being undertaken in the Region every cropping season. I also serve as a resource person on some Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the Region.
