Summary Report on International Root And Tuber Crops Conference

The West Africa Root and Tuber Crops conference was held from 12th -16th September, 2011 with the theme: “The role of root and tuber crops in the socio-economic and industrial development of West Africa”. The venue was Mensvic Hotel, in Accra, Ghana.

The conference was jointly organised by the West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP) and Root and Tuber Improvement and Marketing Programme (RTIMP). It brought together 158 participants from eight countries namely Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Colombia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Mali and United Kingdom.

Useful Information

The WAAPP Coordination Unit in Ghana is the Projects Division of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) whilst the implementing agency is the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The structures put in place to govern and manage the WAAPP in Ghana are the National Steering Committee as well as the NCOS Management Committee and the Competitive Agricultural Research Grant Scheme (CARGS) Board as the Implementing agency.
